In 2012 I had a full-time job and I was running my own agency on the side. My baseline was $20,000 a month. If I wasn't hitting that number, something in my business was broken.

That's the standard I held myself to. And it's the standard leverage makes possible.

Here's the sequence I've used ever since, and the one I teach every Ronin who's serious about scaling:

→ Learn it
→ Do it
→ Delegate it

In that exact order. You cannot hand off a skill you haven't mastered yourself. I don't care how good the AI tools get — you still need to know what "good" looks like before you can trust someone (or something) else to deliver it.

Case in point: I partnered with another agency on a client engagement back then. They ran SEO. I ran social media. My piece of that account was $3,000 a month for roughly 20 hours of my time. That client stayed with me for six years. The average agency loses a client in two.

That's what leverage actually buys you — not just hours back, but relationships that compound.

97% of the people in your pipeline are not ready to buy from you today. That's not a failure. That's the nurture list. The 3% who are ready right now have four things lined up: budget, decision-making authority, a real pain point, and the right timing. Go find them. Stop wasting energy trying to force the other 97% to convert on your timeline.

Problems get attention. Pain points get you paid.

The biggest shift in how I sell: I stopped pitching and started asking. Let the prospect talk about what it's actually costing them to not have the right system in place. That's where the real conversation — and the real close — happens.

The lesson that cost me the most to learn

I ran an IT consulting business to $1,000,000 in revenue over five years. I netted $50,000.

Revenue is vanity. Profit is sanity. Equity is freedom.

That one sentence should be tattooed on every founder's dashboard.
